More people are now finding the importance of conserving nature and that is why environmental documentaries have become very popular. The films intend to create awareness so that people get inspired to restore and preserve Mother Nature. When everything lives as nature intended then life would be very conducive. It will ensure that species live from one generation to the next without becoming extinct. The films aim at making humans custodians of the earth and nature.

Before shooting a documentary, there are some things to be considered first. As a general observation, these short films focus on details pertaining to the negative and positive effects of a given phenomenon. The documentary concentrates on how nature is being changed and how human can participate to sustain the life or arrest a situation. Come up with an idea of what you want to shoot. This will make your film unique and rich in content. Make sure that you have all the figures and facts necessary to run the entire project.

A proposal to do the film will usually contain the length of the work, the intended audience and the purpose of the show. Whenever you are tackling a given topic, ask yourself what is the new approach you are using that is interesting, different and captivating.

The filming elements that make a project successful are the shooting quality, editing technology used and the content of the script. The sound track and the narration voices also highly contribute to the final product. A powerful voice will enrich your project.

You can either write a treatment or a proposal first. The proposal gives a general narrative of the entire project while a treatment tells what the audience will see and hear. It is a brief written in narrative form that takes the audience through the journey of the documentary. The language used in the description is simple without technical terms and filming jargon.

Good environmental documentaries rely heavily on the credibility of the team. The people responsible for the production can make or mess a project. Reputable cameramen, editing staff and directors with a good past record can speed the distribution of your work. Come up with the budget for the project and shoot a pilot sample that shows work in progress.
