The story behind the Cat Stevens's "father and son"

There is little doubt among many fans that Cat Stevens's "father and son" is one of his most popular songs. Says the story of father timeless understanding of desire not son to find his own path in life and his son unable to explain to his father, why should it be so. Stevens sang both parts, singing the melody line on the lower notes, when you assume the role of father and an octave higher when singing the role of his son. At the end she sings two places at the same time, first with her father in the foreground and son in the background followed by a reversal of roles. But what exactly inspired Stevens (now known as Yusuf Isalm, after the Muslim conversion) to write the song? This was based on his relationship with his own father, and the father of someone else, or be complete fiction?

Wasn't sure about Stevens and his own father. Shortly after the song was released said one interview: "have you ever really understood my father, but he always let me do what I wanted-the Let's go."Father and son "is for those people who can't break loose." And in a 2009 interview with Chris Isaak, Hourin Stevens said about their relationship: "who operates a restaurant and I was a Pop Star, so I was not following the path mapped out. But certainly we have no rivalry between us. I loved him and he loved me. "

In fact, the song started as a fantasy novel. Written during the early success in England, before becoming known, the United States originally composed "Stevens Father and son" for a musical project with actor Nigel Hawthorne called Revolussia. Supposed to be about a boy who wanted to join the Russian Revolution against his father's wishes. However, the project fell by the wayside due to Steven's health. Repossession covering more than one year was imposed after contracting tuberculosis and suffered a collapsed lung. The song remained in the Repertoire of Stephen, however, and ended with the release of the famous 1970 "Tea for the Tillerman."

How well did Stevens see the song after releasing this? In his own words, "some people think that I got the son of side. But how could I have sung his father side, if not understood, too? Listening to the song recently and I heard one line and realized that it was his father's father's father's father's father's father's father my father talking. "

If you ever show up to Cat Stevens then I'm sure you'll agree that "father and son" is easily one of the most personal and sensitive songs. It was, in its own way, a quiet, unique masterpiece.
