Enhance Your Songwriting Skills by Using Simple Techniques

I have no idea where I came up with this Article title. I was sitting here banging my head against the wall, trying to figure out how to approach this topic. I thought about many situations I have gone through as a writer and decided to talk about how to enhance your songwriting skills just by being simple. I know it's a broad statement but it actually pinpoints a certain area.
Writer's block is something ALL songwriters will go through. There will never be a time where you will hear a songwriter say, "I never get writers block." For some, it comes and it goes and for others, it's just something that seems to be the "norm." I can't be the one to say that there is a way to avoid writers block. But I will say that there is a way to minimize the reoccurrence rate.
Over the years, I've found that simple practices make songwriting much easier to handle. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not talking as if this is a chore for me because it isn't. I'm saying that there are times when I get so discouraged about completing a song that I total zone out. I get to a point where I can't even come up with a few lines, let alone a chorus.
Play on your surroundings
I will admit that taking the time to understand my surroundings, play off of my surroundings, and create mini songs pertaining to my surroundings has helped my writing a lot. Learn to take small issues, items and or people and turn them into a song. There is no need for a pencil and no need for paper. Practice free style writing off the top of your head and you will notice how easy it becomes for you to get over your writers block.
Take away the paper and pen
It's all a mind thing! I had a problem with sitting in front of a piece of paper with a pen in my hand, trying to complete a song. For some odd reason, doing this would cause my mind to lock up. I couldn't think, I couldn't produce, I couldn't do absolutely nothing. But as soon as I took away the paper and the pen, it was like the blood started flowing through my brain again. Whenever your mind and your body starts to feel as if it's being forced to do something, it's going to shut down on you. Stop forcing the creativity! Let your creative juices flow the way they want. But make sure to keep the paper and pen close so you can jot down your ideas as they come.
Change the scenery
So leaving the paper behind has become apart of your routine, now move around. Don't stay stagnate and don't allow yourself to be in one spot. Change your environment, go to a different room. Take the time to occupy your hands while you try and figure out the next lyric. You will begin to notice how easily your creative mojo functions when you take the time to take the pressure off. Your mood changes as your environment does. A different environment equals a different mood, which equals a few new lyrical ideas.
Taking the time to wrap your head around writers block will make you a better songwriter. You can't allow anything to hold you back from making the music that you were born to make. There is a way around just about anything and everything. And enhancing your skills just by being simple is one of the easiest ways to get those juices flowing again.
