Usually the first decision about the musical pieces is the basic theme of the ceremony. You may prefer to have the wedding indoors in a church or cathedral. The songs there might be different than if you are having an outdoor wedding. You will also need to decide on whether you will choose traditional songs or something more modern. You might want the pieces for the entrance to be the traditional wedding march but have solos which are favorites of a bridal couple.

Even the range of instruments utilized during a church wedding can be significant. Some couples prefer the majestic sounds of a pipe organ. Others are happier with instrumental pieces played by string quartets or even by keyboard selections. Different parts of the nuptials may use different instrumental pieces. It is perhaps more common for easy listening type background pieces during the seating of wedding guests, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Vocal presentations are often found during the ceremony itself. Soloists may be a friend or relative who is willing to sing. Some couples prefer to have a professional soloist present a song or two as a part of your rites. In either case, you will want to ensure that the performer understands the type of song that you want. It's also important that the skills of a performer match the difficulty of any song that is selected.

You will need to think about a different type of songs to be presented during the reception. Often the location changes between the two parts of the ceremonies, so you can also make a shift in the type of music as well. If the reception includes a traditional first dance of the couple, you will also need to think about the type of music appropriate for that segment of activities.

You may want to work with a professional group to create a playlist to your liking. A DJ is able to offer suggestions which will set a theme with the pieces you will enjoy. You can mix the type of dance pieces that will keep your guests enjoying the reception as long as you like. Work with the master of ceremonies or the DJ to ensure that the programs are to your liking.

You can use the internet as a rich source of songs for your nuptials. Songs which are non-traditional will add interest to the ceremony. You can match the music to the location as well.

The pieces you pick should be ones that have meaning to you, rather than relying strictly on the traditional trappings musically. Today, more and more couples are deciding to create their own traditions, even in the marriage rites. This is true of any songs that are selected as part of the celebration.
